What is Aadhar :
Aadhar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Government of India. This number will serve as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India. Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident in India and satisfies the verification process laid down by the UIDAI can enroll for Aadhaar. Each individual needs to enroll only once which is free of cost. Each Aadhar number will be unique to an individual and will remain valid for life. Aadhaar number will help you provide access to services like banking, mobile phone connections, gas subsidy and other Govt and Non-Govt services in due course.
How to Enroll For Aadhar :
1. Obtain or Download the Aadhar Enrollment form (Link given below)
2. Fill the form and carry the necessary identity , address and age proof documents.
3. Locate the nearest enrollment center near you , details present in the link below
4. Submit the form and the agent will take your biometrics and photograph.
5. Retain the Aadhar receipt number for checking the status.

The top of your acknowledgement slip contains 14 digit enrollment number and the 14 digit date and time of enrollment. These 28 digits together form your temporary enrollment ID (EID).
